This powerful mixture is perfect for a variety of uses around the home.
The search for natural alternatives to keep the home clean without resorting to industrial products found in supermarkets is becoming increasingly common. In addition to being expensive in many cases, these products often contain harsh chemicals that, for one reason or another, people prefer to avoid. For this reason, it never hurts to try to find solutions in products that are much more common in our daily lives and that are healthier and more sustainable for cleaning tasks.
Among these is the mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, a perfect combination for various uses around the home. By combining these two elements, we have a product that stands out for its great ability to remove dirt, disinfect surfaces and bleach, an ‘all-in-one’ that can become indispensable in all those homes that have never tried it before. The results are truly outstanding.
The mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide creates a very powerful combination, as the former acts as a mild abrasive, ideal for removing embedded dirt without damaging surfaces, while the hydrogen peroxide provides bleaching and antimicrobial properties.
When combined, they form a paste that can be applied in bathrooms and kitchens, on textiles and utensils, and is a highly effective solution for cleaning, disinfecting and neutralising odours, all without the need for industrial products.

Preparing the homemade mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide is very simple and inexpensive. To achieve a smooth paste that is easy to apply to the desired materials and surfaces, it is advisable to mix three parts baking soda with one part hydrogen peroxide (10 vol) in a container.
The consistency of the paste should be creamy, similar to toothpaste. Once prepared, it can be stored for a few days in a closed container, although it is best to prepare small amounts for immediate use to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Once it has been mixed well and has achieved that creaminess, the paste can be used on countless surfaces and objects around the home. In addition, if you wish, you can adjust the concentration by simply diluting the mixture with water, which is recommended for those occasions when you want it to be gentler.
Among its most common applications are grout and tiles, on which it should be applied using an old toothbrush, rubbing gently and then rinsing to remove any dirt that may have accumulated. It can also be used on chopping boards and containers to get rid of odours and disinfect at the same time.
It is also a great ally for removing bacteria and food debris from kitchen utensils, which should be covered with the paste and left to work for 5 minutes before rinsing. It can also be used to clean toothbrushes, which in this case should be immersed in a diluted solution for 10 minutes to clean them thoroughly and then rinsed with plenty of water.
Don’t forget that it can also be used on white clothes, in which case you should dissolve two tablespoons in a bucket of hot water and leave the clothes to soak for 30 minutes before washing them as usual, thus helping to remove the most stubborn stains.
