Where should the rubbish bin be placed in the kitchen, according to an expert?

Rubbish Bin

An interior designer shared a series of recommendations for eliminating visual clutter in this key room of the house.

Visual noise can make the kitchen an uncomfortable place to be.

It is increasingly common in the world of interior design and decoration for the kitchen to be defined as ‘the heart of the home’. It is the place where conversations take place and where food is prepared to accompany different moments. That is why more attention is being paid to the elements that make it up.

Sometimes, the kitchen, filled with utensils and items, for cooking or otherwise, can seem cluttered. All that visual noise can disappear. The goal is to achieve a harmonious space, with just what is necessary. In this regard, interior designer Pol Caneda offered his recommendations in El Mueble, a specialised magazine.

Experts recommend thinking about increasingly functional kitchens, with just the right and necessary elements, as well as making space for utensils to maintain visual harmony.

1. Goodbye to the visible rubbish bin

One of the great enemies of visual order is the rubbish bin in the middle of the kitchen. It is also often next to the counter, under the sink or in any corner. In one place or another, it breaks the harmony.

For Caneda, ‘rubbish bins should no longer be in the middle of the kitchen’. What is the solution? Integrate them into the furniture, with cabinets designed to hold removable bins. That way, they are hidden. In addition, recycling is made easier with compartments to separate waste.

2. Integrated soap dispenser: fewer containers, more order

Visual clutter also appears in the form of detergent containers, sponges, and cleaning products left on the countertop. The expert’s proposal is simple: install a soap dispenser integrated into the countertop.

These dispensers are refilled from below and eliminate the need for plastic bottles or other items to be visible. In addition to adding aesthetics, they make cleaning the kitchen much easier: you don’t have to move things around to wipe down the counter.

3. Storing plates and cutlery: everything in its place

Dish racks and cutlery on display are a classic. But when they are messy, they can add visual noise. Caneda suggests storing plates and cutlery in cupboards and drawers, always well organised, after they have dried. A simple habit that has a significant impact on the tidiness of the house.

Once dry, it is recommended to store cutlery in specific places designed for that purpose.

To do this, there are accessories such as cutlery trays and bases with slots for plates. This keeps everything in place and prevents them from moving when drawers are opened or closed. It is essential to choose items whose main value is functionality. This recommendation applies to any area of the house.
